DR.BEAUTY'S CLINIC
is a performative installation by Reid Arowood that questions the impact and influence of western beauty standards on the intimate relationships that we hold with our own bodies. Inspired by the rise in prevalence of plastic surgery in order to create the “ideal form”, Dr.Beauty opens their clinic to the public, taking patients from the audience and giving them a physical and digital makeover. This makeover utilizes augmented reality technology in order to give the patients results they can see. This new image is then shared via social media, replicating the prominent dissemination of edited bodies online that promotes societal phenomena such as “snapchat dysmorphia”.

Welcome to Dr.Beauty’s clinic, please take a seat and we will be right with you.
